To write an Outcome, click on the + Add an outcome button. You’ll then see a modal where you can select between an Open Ended, Select or Multi-select response format.

For each Outcome, you need to define the outcome title in that field. The easiest way to write a title is to think about how you would write an interview script if you were talking to a customer face to face. Outcome titles would be the ‘must include’ topics which you want to cover. By prompting the AI with these topics, it will probe deeper until it has learnt enough on the specific subject which you’ve pointed it towards.

It’s important to note that Outcomes are not questions. Unlike more static structures like surveys, you don’t need to clarify the exact question that you want to ask. The AI actually performs better if you just provide the general guardrails. That allows it to adapt its specific questions depending on the topic it is addressing and the participant’s previous response. If you try to define the exact wording, this may lead to a lower quality interview as the AI is forced to stick to the pre-determined questions, even if the respondent has answered in a way that is unexpected. It’s better to frame it as a theme that you want to learn about.

Let’s highlight an example of a good set of outcomes against a poorly drafted set out outcomes.

✅ Good example:

 1. Usage Frequency
 2. Specific Use Cases
 3. Improvement Suggestions

❌ Bad example:

 1. How many times do you use our product every week?
 2. Can you explain the specific use cases in which you use our product every week?
 3. How could we improve our app for you if you had to change one thing right now?

It’s also important to note that the AI will raise the interview topics in the order that you list them. You can rearrange the order in our UI as required. The rule of thumb here is to order the topics in a natural way, the same way you would if you were talking to the person in a more casual format. You can drag and drop the outcomes in any combination that makes sense by clicking on the drag icon and positioning it in the correct position.

To edit an existing Outcome, just click on the Edit button when hovering over it. This will open the modal where you can then change the details as required. It’s also possible to delete an Outcome by clicking on the ‘Bin’ icon. You will see a confirmation modal before you delete it.

Note that you can add up to 10 Outcomes at present to ensure that your interviews length doesn’t exceed 10 minutes.
